Appealing a rejected DTC application
If you were denied the DTC that does not mean you don’t qualify. Many times, an application is denied because there was not enough information on an application. If you receive a denial, here is what you can do.
- Reapply – you can reapply for the DTC at any time. Be sure your new application is specific about how you are restricted.
- Add more medical information—if there were details about restrictions that were not included in your original application, write a letter to the CRA to ask for a second review. Include a letter from medical practitioner that details new information about your restrictions in specific categories.
- If you do not have any more information to add but do not agree with the decision, you can also submit a formal appeal.
- Write a letter to the Chief of Appeals explaining why your application should be approved.
- Appeal through Tax Court. You can contact an advocate for assistance through this process.
